Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Dr. Gerten currently directs the most renowned German research project (13N8709) for “Laser treatment of presbyopia”.
As a scientific writer, he has published numerous articles on various ophthalmic topics.

Christian A. Schneider, born in 1961, studied medicine at the University of Frankfurt am Main, where he graduated in 1989 with a Doctorate degree with thesis on the treatment of acute myocardial infarction.
After a research stay as a fellow of the Boehringer Ingelheim Fund for basic research in Houston Texas, the United States, he has worked clinically in internal medicine (cardiology, pulmonology, angiology, internal intensive care medicine) medical clinical at the Heart Center of the University of Cologne, Clinic III since 1990.
He is a specialist in internal medicine, cardiology, nutritional medicine and medical expert cpu. Since 2004, he has worked as senior physician and head of the outpatients clinic of the Heart Center. In 2008, he was appointed Adjunct Professor of the medical faculty of the University of Cologne.
Prof. Schneider is Medical Director of the Heart Network Cologne, which is considered the leading preventive healthcare project for patients with congestive heart failure in Cologne and surrounding areas. He is the author of numerous publications in both national and international trade press and a frequent speaker and seminar leader. Prof. Schneider is married and has three children.
His work focuses on the diagnosis and therapy of atherosclerosis (such as coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease), congestive heart failure, high blood pressure and cardiac arrhythmia. These two objectives are pursued: improving the quality of life and improving the individual prognosis of the patients.
An intense, risk factor-modulating treatment is used to improve the prognosis of patients with with vascular diseases (“atherosclerosis cure”) which should stop the atherosclerosis process. Another focus is the integrative, personalised preventive medicine based on scientific data. This multidisciplinary approach develops personalised treatment concepts based on individual patient characteristics.
